  • Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and they are inserted gently and shallowly. While each person experiences acupuncture differently, most people feel only a minimal amount of sensation as the needles are inserted. Once the needles are in place, most of our patients tell us that they experience a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing that lasts for many hours after the treatment.
  • What can acupuncture be used to treat?
The short answer? Just about everything! Chinese medicine is a complete system of medicine that has been used in Asia to treat a broad range of disorders. It is usually more helpful for chronic issues than acute ones. For complex cases we suggest you speak with Dr. Kim before you book your first appointment, especially if you have specific questions about how acupuncture and/or herbs might be beneficial to you.
  • What should I expect at my first visit?
At your first visit, Dr. Kim will conduct a thorough intake evaluation asking questions specific to your main complaint as well as many questions relevant to your overall health. Based on this initial intake, a diagnosis and treatment strategy will be formulated to specifically address your individual needs. On your first visit, you can expect to spend 60 to 80 minutes for initial consultation and acupuncture treatment.
  • What should I wear to the treatment session?
We recommend loose clothes, such as short pants and loose t-shirts since the acupuncture points need to be exposed. Also, wearing flip flops would make it easier for Korean four needles technique and reflexology. You can wear those comfortable clothes to the clinic or bring them with you if you are coming straight from work. Regular pants are okay as long as they can be rolled up to knees, and long sleeved shirts need to be rolled up to elbows. No shorts? Don't worry, we provide you with shorts in case you don't bring one. For clients for facial care session, no makeup or light makeup is preferred.
  • Can I eat beforehand?
While we don’t recommend eating a huge meal before an acupuncture treatment, we do suggest that you have something light so that you’re not getting treated on an empty stomach.
  • How often will I need to come in for acupuncture before I see results?
Most of our clients see us weekly; however, each case is unique. Your practitioner will craft a clear treatment plan for you and will tell you how often you should have treatment. Everyone responds to treatment differently so your results will depend on your particular situation. There are certain issues that can be addressed in a visit or two; other cases might require more treatments until your goal is met. Your practitioner will be able to guide you on the results you can expect. Often, patients will notice relief from a specific symptom straight away, though we may need more time to work on the underlying root of the issue. Once your symptoms are relieved, we recommend one visit per week for health maintenance.
  • What if I can't visit the clinic?
We take our services on the road and come to you at your home for a custom in-home acupuncture treatment within a 20 mile radius. In our humble opinion, we have the best atmosphere for acupuncture treatment, but no other places are better than your own home in terms of "making yourself at home" which is one of the most important factors when dealing with chi (life force in our body).
  • Can I get adjunct therapies without getting acupuncture?
For those who wants to get a certain therapy only, such as cupping, moxa, and foot reflexology, we can offer the service after you finish consultation with Dr. Kim.
  • Do you reuse the needles?
Nothing is reused in our clinic. Even the air is not reused since our heavy duty air purifiers remove airborne contaminants in the whole facility. Rest assured that we keep our facility the cleanest acupuncture clinic in Arizona.
  • Do you accept insurance?
We do not process insurance in-house; however, we are happy to provide you with a receipt that has the necessary coding for you to submit to your provider. We recommend checking with your insurance company to see if you are covered for acupuncture and, if so, what specific conditions your insurance company covers acupuncture for.
  • Do you offer any discounts?
We have a referral program. Referring clients get a $20 credit per referral.
  • How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let the front desk know as soon as you can by phone or by emailing admin@charmonyacu.com. We do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, so appointments altered within 24 hours of the scheduled treatment time will result in a fee.
